It is indeed an honor for any company when industry leading events roll by and your top people are invited by to serve on prestigious discussion panels or are invited to present on specialized topics. This was once again the case at the IFAC MMM 2019 Symposium that was recently hosted in the picturesque Stellenbosch. BluESP’s Merinda Westcott was invited to serve on the prestigious “Women in Mining” panel. As a prominent Chemical Engineer in the mining industry, Merinda had the opportunity to share knowledge and experience on how to create an environment that can take maximum advantage from gender diversity. Dr Kevin Brooks served as co-chair on the National Organising Committee of this prestigious global conference, which was attended by 75 delegates from around the world, all experts in the field of MMM control and optimisation. Prior to the conference there was a hands-on workshop, in which Kevin demonstrated linear control. Merinda and Kevin presented a paper entitled “A Combined MPC for Milling and Flotation – A Simulation Study”.
The event also afforded our team the opportunity to familiarize themselves with emerging trends while networking with some of the most prominent figures in mining.
